From Beijing Fun to a  "Welcome Home" in Fuling

Children run together along the Great Wall and explore in the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.  They see the great cultural heritage in China's capital that is theirs before heading to Fuling.   In Beijing they also visit the China Center for Adoption Affairs and the matching room, where families like theirs are made possible.

Sharing the Homecoming with with Kids Adopted from Fuling

There is a special bond between children adopted from Fuling.  The trip is an opportunity for kids to experience their first home in China with other children who were born in the Fuling surroundings and cared for by the same staff and at the same orphanage.

Learning More about China

Children learn and remember best by doing. In Beijing they will try  paper folding or calligraphy after a visit to the CCAA.  Visits to all the sites in Beijing will be informal and kid-oriented.  In Fuling a teacher will give them a traditional Chinese dance lesson at the new orphanage, and the children can perform for the orphanage staff and their parents on the last day of the trip.   Whenever possible, the children will be invited to taste, try and interact.  The trip is meant to give children positive memories and a better understanding of what it means to be Chinese.

Returning Fulingers Hold and Feed Babies at the New Orphanage

Children see where they lived as babies at the old orphanage. They meet their caregivers and, if it is possible to arrange, their foster parents.  They can hold and feed babies and play freely in the colorful baby rooms and on the orphanage grounds.  The orphanage staff and caregivers will be on hand to welcome and talk with the children and families, so children can learn what their first months or years in Fuling were like.

What's It Like to Be a Kid in Fuling?

Along with spending time at the orphanage, children and their families will have the chance to roller skate and fly kites at the local park, eat at Fuling restaurants and join in the favorite pastime of night dancing in the city square.  Since many of the children were likely born in the countryside, seeing village life is an important part of the week.  They spend a day outside of the city in the mountainous, beautiful countryside and eat lunch in a village.

A Special Time for Parents, Too

Providing information for children is important to families.  Children will see the room in at the CCAA where parents and waiting babies are matched and meet senior staff in charge of that important work.  Parents can arrange to see their child's complete and original adoption file in Chongqing.  If the child had a foster parent, parents may request the opportunity to meet the foster parent.   Quality time at the orphanage is also meant to give parents and siblings a window into their Fulinger's first months or years before they became a family.
