Why Fuling Parents Are Running for the Kids

First Hugs for Fuling

Go, Daddy Go!

Layne's best cheerleader as he prepares for this 26.2 mile race is his daughter Ellie!    Layne has been bringing her and wife Yuko along for company while training.

Yuko writes: As for our training, we ran 13 miles last Sunday!!! We didn't mean to run that much. We were just going to do 6 with a long lunch break at a bagel shop for Ellie's lunch. So we had two small bottles of water, one big frozen bottle (for a later use), and Ellie's milk and water sippy cup in her insulated lunch box. No sports drink which helps us get through a long run.  But Ellie fell asleep after twenty minutes and we both felt great, so we decided to go for a long run.

You can't run that kind of distance in the sun right now in Florida. Luckily, Gainesville is a tree city, so it's pretty easy to come up with a shady route. After about an hour, Ellie woke up. That's when we started getting tired. We hoped she wouldn't ask us to sing and recite stories because we were kind of out of breath. For some reason, she was in a greatest mood that day. So she kept smiling and cheering for us. We didn't have to sing OR recite stories!!!

Towards the end of the 13-mile run, Layne got really tired, but Ellie kept looking back and saying, "Daddy, go Daddy!" That surely helped. We feel really good about this run. We're not fast, but we're getting there.

Please help our runners achieve
