What makes a child thrive? Love in the form of attention and interaction are key. Personalized care for every child at the orphanage is the goal of Fuling Kids International. We assist orphanage staff in the forming and maintaining of foster families for the children. Families are the first priority. When a foster family is not possible, First Hugs Infant Nurture program gives a child at the orphanage a trained caregiver who plays and works with her or him in Gracie's Room. |

So often a child's first word is Mama or Daddy. For a parent, there is no sweeter word. For children waiting for parents, a foster parent is the sweetest gift. Foster parents at Fuling are screened, trained and monitored by orphanage staff. Every year FKI helps facilitate sponsorships for over 25 children placed in loving homes around Fuling. Children are integrated into the daily life of the family, and foster families dote on their foster children. Children with disabilities are especially in need of foster families. In many cases these foster parents may be the only family the child will know. Full sponsorships cost $480 a year, and sponsors receive quarterly updates on the children they have given a family. Sponsors can also give a month (at $35) or more of foster care and receive an update. You can sponsor a child for foster care online or by check. For more information, contact amelia@fulingkids.org.

Trained "aunties" spend eight hours each day "mothering," babies on the specially padded floor of Gracie's Room. These trained caregivers teach the babies and toddlers to explore the world around them, to bond, and to interact. Records are kept and tracked for each child's development. The First Hugs program was born when families who adopted their children from Fuling worked through FKI to pass on the love. First Hugs and what it offers the children is made possible by the generosity of donors from around the world. Today First Hugs is expanding to help children with special needs grow stronger and more capable. These children need special support and love.
Fulinger Gracie Reilly touched many hearts during her precious life. It is not surprising that since her loss the Reilly family continues her legacy of love and joy by furnishing and founding infant nurture rooms in China. The Reillys inspire those of us working and giving through FKI to honor Gracie and children needing love and attention. Hundreds of waiting children have blossomed in Gracie's Room.
